Spiritual Formation and Education

The ministries of Spiritual Formation and Education are more than acquiring knowledge about God, these are ministries of integrating all of the knowledge into the heart so that our whole lives are filled with the Good News of being created in God’s image and called to serve and love in the world.

DISH AND DIRT: Faith for the Springtime is the theme for Lent this year. “Lent” is an Olde English word for “SPRING.” The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, the wonderful, sober reminder that “From dust you were made, to dust you will return” – i.e. enjoy, get busy, be alive! DIRT!!! Lent ends with Holy Week, including Maundy Thursday, which is a day to wash the dust off each other’s feet and share the Passover meal, like Jesus did with his friends. DISH!! DIRT is one small group that meets every Tuesday of Lent – considering how to garden organically, seed sharing, gardening tips, mapping out a community garden on church property. DISH is one small group that meets every Thursday of Lent – considering our relationships with food, healthy recipe sharing, healthy potlucks, the politics of food, and a cooking class. Every aspect of our Lenten life will engage this theme – of God’s amazing dirt / earth / creation and God’s amazing dish / shared meals / community. Come and be part of the faith exploration.
